Noticed 1.5 yr old Rooster with spur off. Area above it somewhat swollen. Still able to walk around ok. Tried to treat area but the area where spur came off has a hard surface. Cleaned it and applied antibacterial and bandaid. I think I’ve read about soaking area but forgot with what..is it epsom salt in warm water?

Keep it clean and he should be fine. I have males that lose spurs in spats a lot. Usually they're pretty tender for a few days and that's it

it’s so hard to catch this huge RIR
If you really need to catch a bird, taking them off the roost a night is an easy way to do it. A headlamp with a red light is very helpful for this! You can see well enough, but chickens don't see the red light as well, so they stay put.

I rooster's spur will grow back, it will just take some time though.
One of my roosters broke a spur well over a year ago. Never sprouted a new one. Funny thing also, I think his other one stopped growing. He'll be 3 in April, I just took these pics..

*Edited to add clarification. It snapped completely off at the leg.
