We've noticed one of our hens started hopping like a bunny when she runs. Just thought it was cute. But today I noticed a gash on her back so I'm assuming it's from our roosters spurs as he's typically more rough with her when mating.
What should we put on it and I'm guessing we need to separate her? And for how long? TIA.

Can you post a picture of the laceration? Separate her until it starts to heal. Keep flies off it. I would use Vetericyn wound spray, or clean it with some weak betadine or chlorhexidene. Coat it with plain triple antibiotic or neosporin ointment twice a day.

Trim and file down the rooster’s spurs. If you can get a video of her walking and hopping, and post it to YouTube, we might take a look at it.

I'll try to get pics later. How do you trim his spurs? They are literally almost 2 inches long. The gash looked to be about 1 inch long and about a 1/4 inch wide.

You can use dog nail clippers, a large file to dull them, or a Dremel. My rooster’s spurs got ripped off some how, and grew back in so thick that I could not use the nail clippers. I tried using pliers to crush the tips, and the whole spur twisted off. Here are some links with various methods:
