a view from above, looks like she's laying down with her legs spread. She does this whenever I raise my hand above her. She squatted for a week and just laid her first egg today

Hi, Chicknlove - how old was your Buff Orpington when she started squatting? Ours is 21 weeks old, and no sign of that yet. Her face and wattles are getting brighter, but her comb is nowhere near as red as your hen's comb is in this picture.
