Squatting

Good afternoon and thank you in advance

My RIR hen keeps squatting as if she wants to have a poo.

When I watched her she passed a poo, which wasn't really formed but nothing that would make me worry but then she squatted as if she was passing another bit (as if it was a dog) and then she stood up and moved away and then squatted again and you could see her vent opening/closing.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received

I would examine her for an egg that can't pass. Oil and a finger. If so, put her in some very warm water for a while. Or , what I ended up doing is oiling around the egg a few times and hoping that it's loosening up the egg.

Each time you walk towards her and she squats...it means she wants to mate.

I wasn't near here and I have seen that with my girls, this was a different position.
When the girls go down when I walk past etc they go to the ground... this was her hunkering down - 'squatting'

thank you, someone else had suggested this in a jokey way and I was thinking omg I bet I have to lol So I will go with this.
I have given her some sunflower oil via her mouth .. yes I know wrong end lol ... but I was hoping it would act like an emulsifier and help her pass what ever is possibly blocking her.
She aint a happy girl and I don't want her to deteriorate even if she is drinking and eating.
I will let you know how it goes and I will do both options you suggested.
Can I ask... why very warm water ... and what is considered very warm water

Make it warm but not hot. If it's too hot it can start cooking the chickens legs. You can try giving her some molasses in her water. That acts as a laxative and will get things moving.

The warm water relaxes the muscles and just helps things move easier.

Do you have a rooster? If so they probably are trying to mate. If not take the others advice.

ahhhh thank you .... its cold weather wise here as in zero to -1 ... so will try the other options first
