just wondering if squirles and chickens get along?
since mine have been eating some grass i have noticed a squirle and shoooed it away before i let the chickens outs? do they bother one another?
thanks in advance!

Squirrels and chickens are oblivious to eachother. A squirrel will eat the chicken food and MAYBE the chicken will chase it away.

I'd get rid of the squirrel just because he'll cost you money in the long run. They steal alot of food.

My chickens chase the squirrels. If they could catch them, they'd be enjoying a southern squirrel dinner.

Here the squirrels ignore the chickens and the chickens ignore the squirrels. We have Grey squirrels and Fox Squirrels.

We have squirrels go in to the run-thru the fencing and eat all the seeds..even caught one eating my laying pellet, INSDE the coop! Squirrels tear up wild birds nests, eat their eggs and babies...SO what would keep them from eating chicks and eggs in the coop????? I will be wrapping my run with a smaller hole wire. My rooster tries to run the squirrels out--he crows and makes a terrible ruckus each time the squirrels come in...he chases one and another eats!!! So, it's either kill them or fence them out!

One day I had my 3 broodies out with their nine chicks (a Tri-parenting thing

) and was giving them sunflowers seeds when a squirrel got a little too close. Two of the hens went NUTS and chased it all over the yard and finally up a tree

Hilarious! The squirrel didn't know what was going on and just glared at us the whole time on a branch

They are food snatchers. Try to put out a squirell feeder away from your feeding areas. It worked (kinda) for me before my dog ran them all off. At the least they were fun to watch.

thanks all for the stories and all!
i ended up moving my bird seed and stuff away from the chicken coop, i think thats why i have seen squirles lately, they are getting to the bird seed. so hopefully they can go eat some on the other side of the house instead of near my other birds( chickens!)
anyways thanks all! i feel better now knowing it'll be okay, but i still watch on them, while they are out and about eating grass all over my yard! and pooping pooping pooppping everywhere, now its a must to wear shoes in the yard! lol!

LOL One of my runs has the large holed poultry wire on it and the squirrels squish themselves right through and eat all the scratch they find on the ground. The chickens could care less. Squirrel, cardinal, finch...it's all just company come to dinner.

We have lots of squirrels in the woods surrounding our property, but I can't say I've seen them anywhere near the chickens. Probably because our "chicken boss" (lab/rott mix) barks his fool head off every time he sees a squirrel.
