SQUIRRELS!

So, i was gardening today, and i looked over at the coop, and there was a squirrel in their, eating the girl's food! I cant close the coop door, because the girls go in and out to get to the food and water that is in there, and they use it as a door to the large pen outside the coop. I knew something else was eating it than just the chicks, because it+the chicks are going through a 5-pound feeder in a day. how do i keep it out?

BB gun is most effective. If you are opposed to shooting at the squirrel you can try a treadle feeder as the squirrel will likely be to light to trigger it open. Squirrels can eat a LOT of chicken feed. And they are very persistent at getting at the feed.

i don't have a BB gun, do you know were to get treadle feeders? i do have a re-curve bow, but do you know i its legal to fire arrows at wildlife?

You can buy treadle feeders online or sometimes at the local feed store. They are spendy unfortunately. They protect the feed from rain as well.

I like watching squirrels in my yard I really do. I do not like having 10 of them though as many of us have as they can consume a lot of chicken feed as well as other resources. So please don't think I'm blood thirsty. But eliminating a few squirrels can really help your cause.
