Hello all, so I have silkies and a bantam who are all broody at the moment. I have two silkie girls sitting on one nest. Yesterday I went outside and there were a few chicks hatched! I was trying to decide if I should leave them there or if they would be in danger at all because I have a mixed flock.
I went outside and found one who had either been kicked out of the nest or wandered out. Well I thought it was dead it was freezing cold but it moved I put it in the incubator and it fully recovered!
I have newly hatched chicks inside that I incubated so I took the babies and brought them inside.
Now sorry to make this so long but basically my point is I checked earlier and one of the eggs was hatching so I put my broody back on and figured I’d get the baby later. I came outside and found two chicks fully zipped but still s bit in the shell and dead they seemed squished.

Now my question is why did this happen?
Is it because two girls are sitting on the same nest? Is it because I picked my broody girls up to check and then put them back down?
I’m really upset because I was going to take the egg earlier when I saw it was starting to zip but I didn’t I just said to myself I guess she can finish hatching it out.
My two girls are still sitting on about 3 eggs then another silkie is sitting and my bantam is sitting. Should I take the eggs away and put them in the incubator I don’t want any more to die.

I don't like to have hens cobrood a clutch of eggs. Too frequently it results in cracked eggs or squished chicks in my experience.
Ya I think you are right at first I thought it was cute but now I obv don’t I may just take the eggs those girls are sitting on and put them in the incubator to finish or under my two other broody girls who are in separate boxes
