I have a brower top hatch incubator. i have eggs a week appart in there.
should I :
1. three days before hatch turn off the turner and hand turn the ones that need to keep turning while misting hatching eggs
2. leave the turner on mist eggs
3. make a seperate hatcher ( any plans)
4. buy an inexpensive incubator with fan but no turner ( which brand)Brinsea ? LG ?
5. carry eggs arround in a apron of some sort and cluck at them alot.
6. con one of the silkies into sitting on them for me

this is my first time the darlings are due next thursday 7 of 7 stilll look good, I don't want to mess this up

I vote for number one! I really like number five, but sleeping might be a problem!lol These are duck eggs right? I was just wondering because of the misting!

Wait.... if you are misting so you do not have to raise the humidity, don't bother. The delayed eggs will be fine with the raised humidity. Also if buying an inubator is an option, I would get one. It is great for a hatcher and a dryer for the chicks! I love my hovabator with auto thermostat!!!

Actually they are chicken eggs. I need to increase humidity but only on some eggs. my DD's 4-H leader suggested misting the eggs

I don't know if I am much help but....

1. Thats probably what I would do.

2. I wouldn't do that.

3. I guess you could do that if you want to but my first try at making a home made incubator was awfull and I killed all the chicks.

4. Thats something that could work, but you would have to get it soon as you are supposed to run the incubator for a while before you put eggs in.

5. um, if you want to

6. that would work also.

I hope that helps.

I would go for number 4, infact I will be doing this for the hatch I have now as I am doing a staggered hatch with bantam and quail eggs, it is also good to have a spare at hand as you may never know when you might need it!

what is the best way to increase the humidity the last couple of days, do I have to worry about "drowning" the other eggs. 7 of 7 Giant frizzle cochins growing away I don't want to mess up. first timer here

I'd do none of the above options!! Just turn the turner off and leave the other eggs. They have been turned enough they will be okay, but if you lose humidity the eggs that are due to hatch will have more problems!! I JUST DID THIS MYSELF last week!! It works! I always have a staggered hatch going, have one now. They are a week apart too! I hatch about every other week and brood small numbers of chicks at a time to sell. I have a Hova Bator, and have 80% hatch rates this way. The low percentage is only due to the 2 power outages

If you stop the turner 3 days before and hand turn the others...that means you would have to open the bator and lose valuable humidity. I understand you said you wanted to mist them but how long would that last? I'm not an expert, but I've always been told to NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER open the bator the last 3 days

I also thought that you couldn't mist chicken eggs? Can you?

I'm still learning new things everyday so I dont know

I would be scared I'd lose them, especially since all were doing great. I would buy a cheap LG for $50 and use as a hatcher. Or look on craigslist or ebay for a used one, maybe in your local paper? There's actually one in the "everything else for sale" .....an LG
