Ok guys and gals,
What are your thoughts? This is my idea and I would like to know what you more experienced chicken lovers and raisers think?
I'm building a chicken set up... I call it that instead of a coop because there is so much more involved then just a coop...
I have a 40 egg incubator cooking up the first batch of 25 chicks right now... once they are hatched they will be separated into 4 different hand made brooders in the same room of my basement... my plan is to have them in brooders for two weeks before starting my next batch of eggs in the incubator... once the 2nd batch of eggs hit 18 days the chicks from the first batch will be taken outside into what I call "The Brood Coop", a 10x30 foot pen with a 10x10 foot coop/house. This would put the first batch of chicks right around the 5 weeks of age... This way I have a few days to clean up and sanitize the brooders for 2nd batch. I plan repeating this step one more time for a 3rd batch of eggs, moving the first batch of chicks from "the brood pen" into a 25x35 foot pen with a 12x15 foot coop/house. This would put the first batch of chicks at about 10 weeks old in the big pen, the second batch at 5 into the brood pen at 5 weeks old and the third in the brooder's in my basement... 5 weeks later there will be 50 chickens in the big pen minus what I lose in incubation and brooding process's and minus most of the roo's to sell, or eat... (mostly sell). In another 5 weeks the 3rd batch will be moved into the larger coop as well and "the brood pen" will be used for breeding purposes...
This may not make sense but if it does please give me some input..
Thanks
