Stain and paint

We plan to build a coop using old fence panels and new plywood.

Do we need to paint and stain everything? Or just do one? Would you stain then paint?

How about inside?

Is it better to do it before building the coop?

You will want to use a good primer, then paint.

I like barn paint.

It's specifically formulated to go onto rough, unprimed wood and to last in rough conditions.

The drawback is that it's only available in a limited color range.

Barn red or white. But you can add tint to the white so it is more than two colors - just not every color because some need a different base.
