With the humidity being extremely high in my area(Texas) a few people I know are planning on trying to hatch eggs with the eggs standing up in the trays/turner in hope to save their chicks from drowning. Has anyone attempted this? If so what were your results?

Yes. It is common if you have small air cells to hatch them up in cartons to help prevent excess moisture from running into the air cells when the internally pip. @lazy gardener recently hatched upright because she was worried about the air cells being small and she was happy with the results.
