I am new to standard cochins and have heard they are poor to fair layers. My pullet is laying 5 lovely eggs a week right now, is this unusual?

We have a bantam blue cochin named Elvis and she is the best layer we have. She has no trouble keeping up with our production birds and lays 5-6 eggs a week....not to mention she is so darn pretty!

I'm glad to hear that some cochins can be good layers. I have 2 cochin mixes (half delaware). I am hopeful they will be good layers once they start:)

This is great to hear! They are such lovely birds and great with my kids too. My blue "bluebell" is my daughters favorite.
