I bought eggs from a breeder. I know they had several very rare breeds, but I only wanted Ameracauna and BCM roosters. I ended up getting a mix of eggs and one turned out to be this rooster. He's standing behind an Orpington and in front of a CL for scale. He's a nice roo, but very people shy! I can't get close to get a good pick because he rotates away. I can pet him at night though. He sort of grits his beak and bears it. He's not a screaming baby like the monster BCM is.

I've never been around silkies so I don't know how big they are supposed to be. Can someone please confirm bantam or standard? He's 18 weeks old.

Also does anyone want him? Or know a good way to place him? We usually cull extra roosters, but I thought he might be something special (we really like him) and I'd like to see him in a good home. If it matters, he's clearly the dominant rooster over a giant BCM and an Ameracauna. I need him out so that those two can start sorting things out.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I can think of two things. Hedemora is one of them. Greenfire Farms sells this breed, and they can have silkie feathers and the dark pigmented skin. But they aren't supposed to be that large.

The other is a mixed breed with Silkie grandparents on both sides. I do not think it is a pure Silkie because it has the wrong comb and is a non-standard color. Also, large fowl Silkies are very rare in this country. I don't know of anyone selling them. That doesn't mean there isn't, though.

Hedemora!!! I'll look that up. My husband said the breeder gave one that started with an "H" but he couldn't remember what he said.

You are a rock star!! Hedemora it is. The sizes are a little deceiving in the pics. He's probably 4-5 pounds. He's in between my leghorn and Isa hens in size. Hubby perked up right away on the name. He said the breeder went out of his way to point it out. Thank you so much!!
