Standard Silkies and Bantam Silkies?

There is only one size in the US. In the UK there is the Standard size.
Let me add that there are some here in the US that are working on Larger size silkies but they are not excepted in the standards for showing here yet.

US silkies are neither in my opinion, I have seen both bantams and standards at a show in germany. Bantams being a lot smaller then ours here and standards being a match to something like a barred rock in size. North American silkies have me severely dissapointed in that aspect. I couldn't keep silkies in germany because we didn't have enough space, so i was so eager to get some nice ones when I move here but that plan kinda went down the tubes when I saw the silkies here.

a few bantam sized (eggs at least) were imported and 100 or so are here.I got 6-but lost 1.They are all reds. The quality is not super though, foot feathering is mediocre at best, crests are small. They came from the Netherlands.Ae50mag posted pix of his (he got more than me- jealousy flashing) you could probably search and find the pix

I guess it depends on your personal taste for size. You could breed the smaller ones for size. I have some small ones but I really prefer the the medium very stocky with huge crest, beards and foot feathering.

I'm glad they are no bigger then they are here. I love to cuddle my silkies too much. Remind me a of kitties who just happen to feed us!

Many of the Silkie Bantams bred & shown in the US are much larger than the standard calls for. This is true of many of the Bantam breeds.
In the "old days" birds were weighed when they were brought to a show. Those that were to large or too small were denied entry. I think we should go back to that at least for awhile. Weight is a breed characteristic & as such can be a disqualifying factor.

I'm not a purist about silkies, I just think they're adorable, any size. I want some.
