I am thinking if I getting another batch of chicks again and is it a good idea putting standard breeds with bantam breeds? Little chicks can really be active and like to pick on each other at that age so I am wondering if this is such a good idea. Even as they grow older and get to be the rest of the flock. Any help or ideas are very much appreciated. Thanks!

I always recommend not mixing them. Some are fine together, and others can be trouble. As a whole, bantam hens are gentle compared to standard breeds. I have brooded standard and bantam together, but separate them out when I move them to their coops.

I have one Bantam Hen that lives with my Huge Brahma Rooster, Orpington and a speckled Sussex Hens....They all get along great...My Bantam has never been bred by my Rooster, she is way too fast for him....She is on her third hatch of the year and is back with the flock...She has 6 Chicks...All my Birds do great....

I have 23 birds one of which is a bantam.
She is surprisingly second in pecking order.
Long story short I had 5 or so birds left got aton more some died of the originals now I have 2 left of the originals origanlas and she us the original second flock.

Its soon funny to see her stand up to gigantic hens.she has to stand on her tippy toes to reach the other hens necks to give them a waring peck.

That has always worked out for me. I believe it helps to have them together as chicks. They will establish a pecking order, and as long as you have enough space for the bantams to get out of the way of the big chickens, everything should go fine! You might want to make sure you have some large size hens in there, (i don't know if you are ordering straight run or not) cause it might not be good for a big rooster to start trying to mate with bantam hens, as they get older. Good luck!

Thank you!!!!

I usually mix my bantams and standards w/out problems.
They thrive together in the brooder.
They thrive together in the yard.
