We have 7 pullets RIR, Barred Rock, Easter Egger. We have noticed that when we check on them at night that we will find some of them standing on the roost. We assume that as the nights are hot they are just trying to cool down. It not always the same one and the others are resting. So could it be just that they are hot or could it be something else?

As this is our first flock of chickens we are still learning.

Thanks

They will stand and will pull their wings away from their bodies and pant to cool down.
Chickens also preen and stand a lot throughout the night. I have a camera in my coop and someone is always active no matter what time I look in on them.
I just looked in on them and this is what I saw.

7 out of 25 standing, 3 were preening. It's almost 10:30 at night.
