Evening!

I live in Naples, FL and the last few days half my yard has found itself in standing water from all the rain. It was overnight rain, so by the time I woke up the chicken run was under water, with the chickens drinking from that standing water. I got them out of there and raised their run above the water with mulch, but today, while I was at work, more rain. I came home and the run was under water again. I setup the chicken coop, so they could not get out of it to the run any longer; however, I did begin to see blood in some of the poop. I will start to treat for coccidia tomorrow. Anything else I should do to help them and prevent anything they may have been exposed to???

Unless there is bad stuff in the water (septic is very bad), they are fine to drink the water. The issue more is, in my personal opinion, is they shouldn't be hanging out in the water for two long. I can't imagine it's good for them to be walking around in it too long, though it is good to clean their feet.

How deep is the water? Is there a chance the water can get deeper than their shanks?

My best suggestion is keep the coop as clean as possible and make certain that the water doesn't rise above shank level. If available, provide cement blocks for places to get them out of the water. If possible, continue to add more mulch. It'll take a day or two before the water leaves, then mud for several days. If your coop is high, and there's a chance of more rain while you're gone, keep them cooped up during that time. Outside of that, the birds need the fresh air. Free range if possible. (If in high predator area, let out only a few at a time and strictly supervise.)

I would plan to get everything elevated asap. Maybe get some hay or straw down or something to put over the mud and water where they need to walk temorarily until you can figure out how to divert the flood (if that's even possible)

Thank you-- for now I have locked them in the coop...until the water recedes. I did see some blood in the stool tonight, so I may start with Corid.

I would be concerned if this water came in from somewhere else other than your property unless you have things to be concerned about on your property. I am not sure about the blood and coccidia so I'll let someone else comment on that.
