My New Hampshire Reds started laying about three weeks ago, but my stars have yet to show signs. Is it the mix that makes them take longer to lay?

Yes, three of them are mixed breed. Sorry I'm new with the chickens! Haha

Well, welcome to the party! You're gonna love it.

The breeds of your birds should not have any affect. Just gotta wait it out! Your Stars might be showing signs. Combs/wattles reddening?

The breed mix should not be an issue. Are your stars golden or black? We had a red star that started at 16 weeks, we were amazed, but due to that early stress, she died of natural causes at only a few years, so be careful what you wish for. Anywhere around 20+ weeks is usually the standard, although red stars earlier. Like my obstetrician used to say "when the apple is ripe, it will fall from the tree." You will see their combs and wattles get VERY red, always a sign. Don't fret, it will happen...

Wow! Thanks for all the awesome replies. They are about 4.5 months, and they are black stars with yellow on their necks. Their combs and wattles are very red! That's a good sign then, huh? You guys rock. Thank you so much!
