I have some show quality bantams and LF hatching this weekend. I have never had any bantams or show quality of any kind. Should I plan on special feed or will any good starter feed work? If they need a higher protein or better brand, any suggestions from the experts out there?

We won't be showing this generation but are hoping to start soon as my grandson is almost of 4-H age.

Thanks.

Bump. Just wondering if I need to purchase gamebird feed or if regular chick feed will be fine.

If I do need gamebird feed as some Internet sites suggest, will this be OK for the LF chicks also?

Any good chick starter feed is perfectly adequate for birds that will hopefully make exhibition specimens, LF or bantams

Gamebird feed does not have the correct nutrition profile for chickens and the excessive protein is a waste at best. Commercial chick starter feeds are formulated for meat chickens whose dietary needs are much greater than any prospective show chicken.

Thank you. I was worried when I read that bantams need the gamefowl starter. I will just ignore that and go with the starter feed I have always used.
