Starting a Backyard Coop in Fort Dodge, IA

Hello! I just moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa, and I'm hoping to get a small backyard coop going this spring, maybe around half a dozen birds.

I've been doing some research and looking at coop-building kits, but I'm sure there are many things I haven't thought of, which I will need to consider.

Hello, and welcome to BYC. Good luck in establishing your coop and flock. Most 'chicken coop kits' are inadequate in size or construction. Consider modifying a garden shed or buying an Amish made coop.

The first thing to realize is to never use a coop kit. They are terrible.
You'd be better off converting an old shed into a coop.
