?Starting A New Breed and How To Do It?

If you start a new breed or color that breeds true, how do you get the world to know about it, and get it registered in the standards of perfection? Im curious cuz I want to start a breed out of my BO banty, D Uccle crosses. So far ive only kept 2 a pullet and im not sure on the other cuz its only a month old and pretty tiny (hoping cockerel). Both of my keepers are, I guess, a mix of the buff and the brown part of a mille d uccles coloring. In other words a beautiful gold color (The ones im selling are black with some mottled feathers on either their chest, head, feet, 2 of those places or all 3 depending on the bird). So far the pullet is almost solid except for a little bit of black on her neck, wings, and tail feathers. Confirmation wise she basically looks like a D Uccle, cheek muffs ?, feathered feet and general conformation, except she is a bit heavier more like her dad (the BO) IMO a really cool looking bird, and Id love to start a new breed like her and her siblings. Oh and if you would like pics I have some of Cedar (my main chicken. In case your wondering. 2 words. SPECIAL BOND

There are many true and recognized breeds (Egyptian Fayoumi comes to mind, as well as lots of german breeds etc.) That are not recognized by the APA. There are many standard color varieties in long recognized breeds which are not recognized by the APA.

Basically its a popularity contest. In fact there are breeds and varieties which have been let go from the APA because not enough fanciers remain to show the birds.

The APA is not an authority on what exists, it is an Authority on what is commonly shown.

So.....to get a new breed recognized what you would need to do is to have a breed that was unique enough in its appearance or its usefulness, that it becomes sought after by a group of people.

Im not really familiar with what is required to get a breed recognized, but to get a new color recognized the rules are something vaguely along these lines(dont quote me) have your variety shown by at least 3(?) people at 3(?) APA judged shows per year for 2 years and then also have x number maybe 5 breeders who will attest that they have been breeding this variety true for at least 5 years. My numbers may be wrong but you get the gist.

To have a breed recognized would be something similar probably along with the formation of a club and governing body of members to describe a standard and promote the breed.

All of the exact information can be found out from the APA, but first you probably need to focus on the breed that you are creating.

LOL. Well I guess Ill start with getting the "New Breed " spread around. Now if only I had friend who live on the borders of the state, AND would breed and sell these... this could take awhile. Not to mention if anyones interested in the breed Id have to figure out how to ship live birds and learn how paypal works.
