Starting a turkey flock... Quantity of adult birds

If I'm purchasing adult birds, how many should I start with? These will be pets (there's a chance offspring will be dinner).

Would it be better to get a trio or a pair? I'm considering BR, RP and MW.

i'd say to get one tom to at least 2-3 hens so he is not putting too much stress on one girls all the time. but i don't have turkeys (yet

A trio would be best, and if possible the hens of unrelated blood lines. That would give you a good start.
