Hello everyone,

Im have bought 6 chicks Thursday, 3 RIR and 3 Dominickers. They are one week old and in a brooder. I am making my coop under a old playground set. Im putting two rows of three on top of each other and I'm wondering if the roost has to be in the same room and do the birds fly into their nests or do they need one of those ramps?

Thanks,

Two rows of 3 nests? You only need 2 nests for 6 birds, and they will probably only use one of those. People usually make them a ramp. They can fly up a certain distance but they may not.

Thank you very much that will save me some time.

For the heavier breed chickens, ramps help a lot. Smaller breeds and gamier birds may bypass a ramp and fly up.
