Hi y'all, we have 8 chicks and they are three weeks old. We are going to build a coop tomorrow. Any suggestions or pointers you would of liked when you started your first coop??? Thanks

Coop buildings should mainly focus on predator protection, climate , no. of chickens and what will keep neighbors happy. Generally you need 4 sq.feet of space her chicken in the coop, and 10 sq. feet of space in their outdoor run.

If you go to "where am I, where are you," you can post on your state forum and get advice from people dealing with similar climates and situations.

! Great to have you with us! My advice other than the size requirements drumstick gave you:
1. Make it bigger than you think you need in case you ever want to add birds.
2. Use hard ware cloth instead of chicken wire, particularly from ground level up to 15" or so.
3. Make sure it has ventilation.
4. Use high quality hinges and latches on doors.

Good luck to you and happy construction!
