Hey all i am doing research on chickens and i want to some advice.

1. I live in ontario canada and its warm in the summer cold in the winter what's the best chickens to get? I want calm birds that aren't flightly and produce lots of eggs.

2. What is the monthly cost of raising chickens and what's a good coop and run design for where i live?

Welcome to BYC!

You might want to connect with other members in Canada to get input on what works best for your weather conditions. You can find some of them here:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/144/canadians-check-in-here/3230

There's a wide variety of breeds for you to choose from. This article in the Learning Center may help you narrow down the ones you want:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/...cken-guide-to-picking-backyard-chicken-breeds

And looking at the Breed reviews (see tab at the top part of the screen) you can read member written reviews of breeds.

Good luck to you and if you have questions, feel free to ask!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. NorthFlChick has given you some good advice and some good links to check out. Alaska Backyard Chickens has a recommended list of breeds for Alaska at http://akchickens.org/getting-started/recommended-breeds/. If there breeds will handle Alaska's brutal winters, they should be able to handle your winters as well. If you haven't done so already, definitely our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Whatever breeds you decide to get, good luck with your flock.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. I understand Chanticleers were bred to handle the Canadian winter. They have a very small, flat comb that doesn't get frostbitten.
