Hello, I have been nursing a 18-20 week old pullet the past week and a half.
I found her lying down and barely moving one morning, I also noticed she had lime green poop. Wasn’t sure what the issue was.

At the same time, I had broken my toe so I was trying to nurse us both.

When I picked her up a few days ago, I had noticed she was skin and bones, her breast bone was sticking out!

I immediately came here and started searching. I’ve been giving her a scrambled egg with garlic and oregano the past two days, twice a day. She is hungry!

I also found -last night- blood-tinged poop, but it was on hay and I could not get a good visual as the hay was spread around from her moving.

I have been keeping her clean, trimmed her feathers under her where she was accumulating poop residual after cleaning.

I will check her poop when I go out to the coop now, if I see blood tinged or a worm I will start treating her with valbendazole (i think that’s what it’s called) 0.5 ml is what I had seen posted, but she’s tiny so I might give her 0.2 ml.

She is adamant about being close to her roo and the rest of the chicks that she hatched with, so I spread feed around her home (small wire dog crate) so they will feed with her, she perks up when they’re all around.

Since she is weak, I’ve been giving her daily dust baths, putting the mixture I have on her body, through her feathers.

I separated her because I thought it was Marecks, but now I think it might just be worms and starvation because her legs and feet Do move, she’s just so weak. And her eyes are clear.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

It sounds like she has a certain type of worms that get in the throat that prevents her from eating. I can't remember the name but it takes a specific medicine to get rid of them. I had it happen to my peacock. The older lady who I always asked for advice told me. I can't remember the medicine..I just remember it was expensive....This was 10 years ago. Try reading about worms that wrap around the esophagus and it should tell you what the medicine is called. I do remember it worked instantly for my peacock and he was eating the next day. Sorry I can't be more helpful but that should put you on the right track.

And my mistake, she is 12 weeks old.

I also don’t know what breed she is, I think she’s an Easter Egger because I’m looking at the sales receipt and she is not a lavender Orphington, a blue lace red wyandotte, a black Astrolorp or a blue Astrolorp. Those are the chicks I purchased, all have a 2/25 birthdate

Hi! Thanks for responding! That is gapeworm. I had a full grown chicken that I took in who had it. We had no idea what she was doing with her mouth, and I finally figured it out. After I figured it out, I medicated her a bunch of times and it didn’t help. We had her for over a year and while she did eat, I guess it wasn’t enough because she wound up dying in February. My guess is the worm slowly strangled her and I gave her the medication too late, the worm must have died but it was still wrapped around. I should have opened her up to see, but my husband found her in the morning and I already left for work and he wrapped her up and put her in the trash and it was trash day :(
