Anyone have any ideas how I can keep the hens from sitting on top my bucket feeder and waterer? Of course they poop down in the water below. GET OFF!!!!

I have taped cheap funnels to the lids before it worked well.

Buy or make one of those cone shaped squirrel guards that you put on bird feeders. Mount it above the feeder somehow and they should not be able to perch on it. This is much easier to set up if you use a hanging feeder of some sort.

I made a cone out of cardboard and plastic (case bottom that bottled water came in). Secured the shape with good old duct tape and placed on top of the 1 gallon waterer I had with by "baby" chickens (5 week old). I remove the cone to clean and refill as it just fits snuggly on top of the waterer. Now I have to make one for the 5 gall feed bucket!

I tie together several empty plastic gallon milk jugs and hang them over the things I don't want them to perch on. Those are impossible for them to get any kind of perch hold on and they give up within a few days. I find if I leave it up a few weeks, they build a habit of perching somewhere else. It is all about building habits with the chickens. Once they find a nice place to roost, they stick wth it. You can take down the eyesore jugs after you have built a better habit in your birds.
