Hello,
I have a sticktight flea problem right now and I just dusted my entire coop with the DE. It seemed to dry them out completely. Now my chickens only have dead fleas on them. I just sprinkled the DE on the floor making sure not to miss any spots and the same with the rest of the coop. I paid special attention to cracks and nail holes. Spraying dust in there as good as I could. I bought this duster spray thing off amazon that worked really well. I even used it to dust my chickens. Just be careful with the Sevin dust as I read a lot of places it can be dangerous and it was pulled off the market a lot of places. I’m using permethrin spray on the coop and pro manna spray on my flock as well as flea eating nematodes on the soil in the run. I hope this helps! Keep us posted!

Ok, so when we bought our chickens the other day the guy told us that they had fleas and he had been treating them. Thing is we didn't know they were sticktight fleas. So I'm wondering, since the chickens have only been here 2 days, if I can vaseline them to smother them, and hope they will fall off eventually? i'm totally squeemish thinking of having to pluck these things off individually. My chickens I have had here don't have them, so I don't think our coop is infested, just the birds that we bought...which are 4 chickens. For whatever reason only the guys chickens had them. WE bought a turkey as well and it is fine.
Also what do I use for ants? And regular fleas. The guy mentioned that they took Seven off the market? What kind? I know I still purchased a small shaker of seven for my garden LOL.
I'm so confused, and worried about getting an infestation of these nasty fleas, and worried about my chickens eyes.

Seven dust is the worst thing to use. It kills honey bees. We have struggled with sticktight fleas in one area of our yard. We made new pens in other areas and they are fine. We have sprayed and done all of the above. Even chemical flea killer don't get rid of all of them. Rats bring them in. Along with others. Kill off rats. And move chickens to a off the ground pen at night. Free range during the day. They fleas are active at night. So with that being said spray your dawn at night. Everyday for two weeks. Should knock them down some. Move chickens out for that time. Now I'm trying pallets on the sand floor. With DE on the sand. Make sure chickens can dust in DE . Put vicks vapor rub in Vaseline. Don't forget coat the vent and any area with no feathers. It's not an easy fix. Keep new chickens away from your chickens until they are clean.
