We had a chick that hatched yesterday and it took longer than usual to hatch, and it was weak for a while afterwards. I looked this morning and it was still wet. I picked it up and the down had like hardened. There are still pieces of eggs and membrane stuck to it. What should I do? It's walking around just like the other chicks, but I'm concerned about it.

How is it doing now? Eating ? If still alive and still has the same problem just use warm water & cotton wool balls and/or very soft tooth brush. Clean only the areas required, dry with paper towel. Keep very warm & it should be fine. However it may never be a strong chick but no harm giving it a go if it is just a pet.

I had a chick like this. I took a warm, very moist cloth and wrapped her in it. I also would sprinkle warm water over her. After about five minutes, I would start rubbing her gently. It took some patience but she finally got un-sticky & hard and turned into a fluffy, normal chick. :) Hope this helps! :)

It unfortunately died. :/ I did everything I could, it was just too weak. It kept rolling over and the other chicks were pecking at it, so I put it in it's own little mini brooder and it went that night.

Was its umbillical chord slightly poking out? It looks almst like dried intestine coming out of its butt/vent.
