Still air temps

I am getting very confused. I have a Hovabator 1602n. I am getting info that for a still air temp should be at 101. Then some one says 100 to 102. Then someone else says no keep at 102. I look on the web and one site say keep it at 99 another says 103. These are all based on using a still air incubator. I am currently keeping temp at 100.4 to 101.7. If I note it at the first temp I cover and bring temp up to 101. If it as 101.7 I will open and cool. At what point do I cook or freeze the little guys? I am on day 8 and so far have development equally in all 9 set. (though I think 2 may not make as they are a little porous).

The recommended temperature is

Forced air - 99.5 F
Still air - 102 F

Honestly, as long as it's above 98F and under 103F, your good.

In a still air the temp is measured at the top of the eggs. I usually shoot for 101.5. As you probably know heat rises so the incubator is warmer at the top. The objective is to have the temp at the center of the eggs at about 99.5. The thing that you can do to really dial it in is choose one of the numerous recommended temps and do a hatch. Then see if you hit the 21 days right on or are a little early or late and then adjust your desired setting accordingly next time.
