Yes, it can take time and a few hatches to get "good" at this.
I have a number of digital thermometers around. They can vary by 3 degrees or more... not very helpful for incubating.
I ended up buying MERCURY thermometers...not "red spirit". I have found them to be quite accurate, although they can vary by a .5 degrees also. If you have a old style mercury thermometer at home for taking "people temps", try making a sm hole in the side of your bator and sticking that through to get an accurate temp reading. Then you will how accurate your other thermometers are. Of course, you have to withdraw it and shake it down to take a new temp reading.
I think I got my 3 "continuous reading" mercury thermometers from Lyons... for about $18 each. Handy if this becomes an addiction for you.
... anyway, if this batch doesn't work... try again.
... also measuring humidity is more difficult than measuring temp. Wet-bulb with mercury thermometers is good.. again from Lyons... or do it by weight loss. Just need a $10 "jewelry scale" off ebay.
Good luck to you!
