Ok my hen has been laid up but improving some I believe since about a week ago when I noticed her limp was getting worse. Upon closer inspection beyond her leg I found a spot on her back. Earlier post show it. Today's photos is after her bath I cleaned it really good with peroxide/water. Applied triple anti biotic cream afterwards. I let her walk around the yard an peck. She was sifting thru the leaves looking for grubs or bugs. Her appetite is still good. Still diarrhea most likely from the oral antibiotics she is on. Still don't know if it is a tumor, or a wound from rooster mounting that got ugly.

Thank you for your response. I have pressed on it an it is hard. But it does have an odor. no drainage. Like a big lump under the skin??

Having an odor sounds like it's infected, but you are giving oral antibiotics so I'm not sure that else you could do but try debriding it and keeping triple antibiotic ointment on it.

It's very hard to know what that is , since you have had troubles with symptoms in your flock that may be related to Marek's disease, it may be Cutaneous form of Marek's. A tumor, feather cyst or infected wound are other things that come to mind.

Thank you for your response, she seems to be responding to both the oral antibiotic and ointment. Still an odor, but I wash the wound and debriding it everyday. She is forging, has done one dirt baths against my wishes but she get a debriding after. She roams the yard a few hours a day for exercise. Unfortunately I lost my Elmo two days ago to I don't know what. He had loose watery stools for a couple days. But was eating good. I gave him oatmeal to bulk up the loose stool. Helped some but he quit eating and drinking and by night fall he went into convulsions and died in my arms. Raising chicken is to hard. A picture of him before he became lame, then after in his wheel chair and last in my arms just before he died.

Sorry about sweet Elmo :(

Elmo! my heart strings. that sling is so adorable. I'm sorry you're having such bad luck. I find animal troubles all seem to come at the same time. I'm glad you found the wound on your girl. it sounds like you have a good handle on it now. fingers crossed that it's not mareks.
