We have not had any luck so far. I am looking for about 10-12 female chicks and 1 rooster chick. We are wanting to have chickens that lay good and are good for meat. I have been looking at different breeds and like the Rhode Island Red. Would like for free but are willing to pay. The local farm supply store had them for 1.89 each, but they ran out.

Where are you? Ideal has nice birds and you can get them sexed. Are you wanting chicks? There are alot of swaps/sales around.

Thanks for the reply. I am located about 25 miles south of Seymour, little city called Austin. Scott County. Young birds but does not need to be to young. Want something that will start laying in about 1 month or so.

Check out the Southern Indiana Chickenstock threads. I bet someone therte could help!

How do I find the Southern Indiana Chickenstock threads?

Thanks for all the help Carole. Hope to see you in Sellersburg!

I will be at the sellersburg swap with all kinds of chickies. I have some new hampshire reds and a barred rock chick and some mixed chicks.

Wolf Lake swap meet this saturday (6/7), Kimmel IN, thread is in the swap section.

wolf creek had a lot of chicken last month. I live near LaGrange IN. I would be able to give you a RIR Rooster and a couple of hens to start your flock for free.
