Hello All,
I have just convinced my hubby that backyard chickens are an acceptable idea and our teen is now pushing hard for at least one duck! We have zero of either species at this time.
When I was young, we had both chickens and a very large, white, puppy-like lap duck named Suzie-Q. No one remembers her species, so if anyone could make an educated guess, I'd appreciate it! My guess is a Pekin. She literally made the duck equivalent of a purr while being petted on a lap! Our daughter is voting for Cayuga and/or Runner Duck!
We are settled on Orpingtons/Australorps for chickens, but I would very much appreciate some advice on a duck selection. Also, we have been researching varying opinions about whether or not chickens and ducks can live in same enclosure or not. Thank you in advance for your sage advice!
In San Jose, we can have up to 6 females.
