so my girls are 7 or 8 months old i was letting them free range up until just recently i was assuming they were laying eggs somewhere i couldnt find but they arent laying eggs in their coop...what can i do to encourage egg laying in their coop/nesting boxes? if they were laying outside of their coop would they stop laying in their coop? im new to chickens so maybe im doing something wrong,im not sure.

I would make the nests inviting and close them in the coop for several days til they figure out that
THIS IS HOME
and
HOME IS WHERE THE EGGS HAPPEN.

Edited for typo.

And to add.
Could you post a current picture of your gals?

ive kept them in their coop about 4 days and still no eggs..the nesting boxes are in the back for privacy...could it be too hot for them?

Aww. I'm sorry!:hugs
I had this problem as well, and I was stumped! But soon enough they started laying and I had no problems.
What I would recommend to you, is to make sure that they are getting enough food and water and that they hav plenty of straw in their nesting boxes, and a cozy place to lay eggs. Maybe lock them up a couple of days to make sure that they really are laying eggs?
Hope this helps!!:thumbsup

You might want to put a few golf balls or fake eggs in each nest. Sometimes with new girls it gives them the idea that “THIS is the place”.

Also, Are we 100% POSITIVE they are all pullets?
