still thinking of trying quail- recommended setup- ease of clean-

i have been browsing quail cages. generally seems like they are 36-24 but looking for GAW so the metal will last longer. anyone have any? also how many cages should i get? it seems like three might work? for eggs and meat for dogs. I do also have chickens so dont need eggs that bad. I am looking at the celdon as i love blue egg layers.
grandview rabbitry has 14 gaw $100 plus shipping (no idea how much that is)
wynola ranch seems kind of popular but all i found is heavy duty now if any are GAW. i also like they ahve a water setup.
bass has rabbit cages so they would work for growouts same size with 14 gaw for 121$ plus shipping

i also found someone saying they use chick brooder setups.
i was planning on in my barn as i go in every day to feed but i havent found any setups that are cat resistant, seems like the birds can just stick head out. So then moved to thinking about my buck shed, i was using it for hay but the hay would always mold so got frustrated, so its empty 24x24 wood building, i dont have power or water though so would need solar lights and to bring a five gal bucket every so often so auto fills for a five gal would be great.

anyone else have the wynola cages? and if so what size of flooring did you get>? they have the 1/2 x2 inch 12 gauge wich is really nice thickness but seems like 2 inch would be preety big. then have the 1/2 x 1 PVC but dont know the thickness on that one. Thinking the harris pro version seems slightly cheaper but i think because it doesnt have dividers. I think i like the water system better then the little waters.

I'm not a fan of battery cages, but I've heard that the Wynola Ranch are good quality. The larger gap flooring is probably intended for jumbos rather than standards.

do you have a recommendation on what cage to get? i was able to purchase a 10x20 building i will be using to store feed and milk my does. I figured i can fit some cages in there and be rat and cat proof.
 
I have the Wynola Ranch cages with the 1/2 x 1 PVC coated flooring. I got them with the red drinker cups which I initially installed on the inside of the cages. That was a mistake. Either the birds were trying to sit on the cups or they were getting stuck. Either way, the poop trays were getting flooded. I moved the cups to the outside of the cage and that helped immensely, but the valves still occasionally got stuck. I then replaced the cups with these:

which resolved those issues. The cages have held up fairly well and I like them for what they are. They're good quality and everything is still in great shape. I suggest using something larger than the valve stem they provide for the water source outlet. Even 1/2" PVC would work better and be less prone to clogging. I also suggest adding a valve at the output from the water source so you can shut off the flow if you need to clean out the supply hoses to the cages.

I'm not currently raising quail because I'm getting ready to move. When I get to my new home, I'll probably build different cages. Like @Nabiki I'm not a fan of the battery cages.

The metal legs on the cages make it fairly difficult for rats/mice to get to the birds. I've had the cages in my insulated garage and never saw signs of predator issues even though I've seen signs of rodents in the garage, they haven't been able to get to the birds.
