So our kingsized (since he's French, I'll avoid the word 'fat') Faverolle roo is doing damage to our hens big time. So one hen in particular is a favorite mark and today, he cut her with a spur I suspect. This was a 1/2 inch wound that was gaping open... no way tape would hold it (we tried!) so it was off to the surgery(that would be the kitchen table...).






Traci didn't want to watch.... so she just held "Blondie" while I did the little surgery. First (not pictured) we shot her with a little Lidocane around the wound. The rest went along easily. These are the sort of things you have to learn to do if your going to own livestock/birds and such... you can't call the vet for everything! (unless your independently wealthy!)

In the recovery room, or rather pen: Note the BIG bandaid, (on left side in pic) she's left it alone thank goodness.




Now I'm building a seprate colony roost as fast as I can.... gotta give some of these girls a rest.
