My hubby was going to purchase some mulch yesterday, so I asked him to price sand to use in the coop and run. The lady that owns the business happens to have chickens too, and she said that she uses stone dust in her coop and run. She said it’s not as fine as sand, and can be used as grit too. Plus, it’s cheaper than sand. Anyone use this or heard of it?

We sell it at my work, it is coarser than sand and will work fine, the stone dust we sell has a bluish tinge to it so if your birds dust bath in it you might have smurf chickens.

Too Funny....I'll have to take a picture if that happens!
It sounds like coarse sand or fine gravel, which should be fine for the chickens.
Thanks so much....I was thinking the same thing by what DH told me...that it was like coarse sand and should work. I shall try it and see how it goes. Worse case, it doesn't work and I go to sand :)
