storey's guide?

has anyone read Storey's Guide to Raising Turkeys? i thought the guide to chicken was extremely helpful for a newbie so i was thinking of getting this one since i'm getting turkeys in a few months. my real question is: will this be a helpful book if i'm raising pastured heritage turkeys or does it mostly focus on BBB and BBW?

I don't recall exactly what its focus is breed wise, but I found the newest edition very helpful. Turkeys are turkeys, and except for the fact they can't breed very well naturally, the BB birds aren't all that different for raising than heritage.

Storey does tend to be oriented toward conventional agriculture for the general help books like this, which I don't find all that useful, but I did find good information.

I have asked for the Storey's guide to Turkeys, it is coming, but it is not here yet. I was hoping it would be in the mail today, but it wasn't. I found the Storey's guide to Chickens most helpful,and each year when i order new peeps I still refer to it. I have the Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds for Christmas and can't put it down. It has info. on all fowl, and for the turkeys it shows differnt varieties telling of the size for adults, natural breeding abilities and such...but here is a link from the back of the book...I hope it will help.

I have the Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds for Christmas and can't put it down.

i checked that out from the library and really enjoyed it. i'm especially interested in chicken genetics (it's so interestingly complicated!) so it was great to be able to look at the different breeds and see exactly how each genotype played out in real life. now i'm just trying to convince myself to purchase it.​

I can understand that. I am just one of those people that I would rather have it than to go to the library and check it out. Besides, someone else might have the same idea and it not be there when I go for it. Something to consider. LOL. You have sooo many animals you obviously have lots of books on how to raise all them. I am impressed.

I found it to be a very helpful guide on raising turkeys. It covers a nice range of information from raising, brooding, coop building etc etc. It is very general in nature but does touch on alot of topics.

I bought this book. I felt like it was geared more toward the commercial aspect of turkey raising vs the backyard enthusiast or homesteader. It was worth reading, but if I could do it again I'd borrow it from the library rather than buy it new

that's what i wanted to do, but my library doesn't have it, nor do the libraries in their interlibrary loan system. i'm checking bookstores around me so i could at least leaf through it first, but so far no luck.

thanks for your input. that is my fear, that it's all about commercially raising BBW, which is not what i'm interested in.

The wife checked it out from the library, but we never purchased it. I have saw it in farm stores, and maybe feed store might have it. Other wise most online hatcheries have it.
