Storing vegetables through winter?

So I wanted to bounce an idea of you guys, and see what you think of this. (And has anyone tried it?) The idea also is to route out flaws in this before I take risks.

Since... many of us store produce in the basement during winter, we are basically trying to keep it in a cool dry dark place to get it to last through winter. This is mostly stuff like squash, pumpkins, and so on. Those kinds of things.

Would it work to maybe once or twice a month wipe off those stored vegetables with rubbing alcohol? Or maybe hydrogen peroxide? And would this work and help to preserve them longer, and keep them fresher? Any flaws in this idea?

Very curious about this idea. Thanks.

In the absence of being able to go to the store, or insufficient supplies would normal alcohol also work in place of above ingredients also?

I've never heard of doing anything to anything we store but maybe that would thwart molding. Not sure though. We put like squash in gunny sacks and hang them. They stay good down there for a couple of months.

You could run an experiment though easy enough!
