So, my black straddle leg silky is about 10 days old. She has had her hobble removed and she’s back in the brooder. She was doing great. Then yesterday, I noticed her routine was different than the others and now this morning all she wants to do is sleep. She’ll peep if I pick her up but as soon as she gets settled she goes right back to sleep. I’ve tried dipping her beak and she’ll take a sip and then back to sleep. She’s the smallest but has been a lil fighter. Any ideas or suggestions?

Is she eating at all? Maybe some vitamins in her water would help. Feed her mashed cooked egg yolk. Make sure her vent is clean, no pasty butt.
She was eating like crazy since being put back in the brooder until yesterday and then she just started sleeping her life away. Her butt’s clean. Do I just add unflavored electrolyte to the water or replace the water with?

And going to boil eggs now. lol Kinda turned into a morning ritual. My teens like to fight over whole eggs in the morning. lol

I am so sorry to hear that. We get so attached to these babies more so for the ones we put extra effort into. Good luck with the rest of your flock. Stay safe and keep on clucking!

It’s very true! I’m glad I started with my bigger PBR & C Queens. They seemed to be a little hardier than my new Silkies. It’s still hard, but the first loss was devastating. You take on the responsibility; you want to do your best by them, ya know? Thank you!!
