One of our pullets (2months) makes this strange cricket chirping noise when we approach their coop at night. It is very funny and sweet sounding, kinda low. Anyone ever heard a noise like that before?

Unless I make a cluck sound myself as I approach my hens make this noise. I think it means it means "did you hear that" or "listen, Somethings coming" like a warning sound.

Every morning when I come home from work the birds see my car and make a beeline for the fence and stand there and make the strangest sounds. They are waiting for their treats that I give them when I come home and they are letting me know it.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Mine does this when she is satisfied. I believe it is a content noise. I'm a new chicken mom but mine always makes this sound when happy,i.e. when I am petting or have some to see her.

This thread is a few years old but the info is pertinent. Maybe they are starting to loose their peeps. When their voices start to change they do make funny noises the same when a male first starts to crow.
