Hello! I just noticed a very strange looking egg laid on the ground in my coop sometime this morning. I've attached a picture of it whole and opened. I've never seen anything like it, it almost resembles an eyeball. Has anyone else seen something similar that may lead me towards an answer as to why this was laid and if an illness or deficiency is involved?
I supply oyster shell, my ladies free range, I have a limestone driveway as well so I would think a lack of calcium wouldn't be the case. All my girls that are laying, are relatively healthy and lay mostly in the nesting box or under our steps by the house. I do have a 6 year old hen that hasn't laid in at least a year, and she has been acting off for about a week, her poops are almost less processed, a little runny, and she will excessively pulse her vent.
Other than that she is acting normal, I've given everyone a dose of electrolytes vitamins and yogurt and treated her specifically for mites and the coop just in case. My question is, do you think this could have been laid by my retired hen and should I be concerned?
