Strange egg laying

My 3yr old silky cross hen hasn't laid an egg for months but I'd find her sitting in the nesting box as if she was laying but never find an eg, just a wet patch so thought maybe one of the bigger hens was eating hers. Then this morning she seemed to be laying so I watched from a distance and as soon as she came out to the others in the run I checked. All there was was what looked like egg white and nothing else. No one had a chance to eat it and there was no shell anywhere, I'm baffled, she seems healthy and is eating well so what could be wrong with her?

Hard to say what you found, she may have laid a shellless egg. She also sounds like she could be broody. Silkies and silkie mixes are notorious for sitting in the nest box. Keep an eye on her. An unhealthy bird will generally not eat well and will be lethargic.
