Strange gosling neck

I’ve had four goslings hatch tonight. One pipped first and came out third with some help from me as it had started to dry up and now that ones a hard in places. First one that hatched came
Out speedy and fast from moment it pipped. Second took time and is the one I’m worried about. He’s also dry in places but it’s his neck. He sits there with his head lying back on his body. Perky enough and holds head up fine apart from when he naps and then it’s this strange position. Am I worrying too soon or is there something I can/should do? He doesn’t fall over and neck isn’t twisting. He hatched nine hours ago.
fourth one has just popped out no dry patches or strange head lying!

It was moving around but basically the head goes back right on to his back

It’s hard to say because they’re so new but it could be a niacin deficiency, sometimes it’s hereditary, if the mom was deficient in something sometimes her babies are too.

You can give drops of B vitamin complex in the mouth, or add it to their water, it will take care of any b deficiency including niacin or thiamin which is the other possibility.
You could also get poultry nutri-drench Incase it’s a vitamin E or A deficiency, or get them sav-a-chic.


If it doesn’t correct itself after a few days it could be a birth defect or hereditary issue.
