Strange Injury

Howdy All,

I have some friends who own a RIR hen. One morning they found her eye just 'pushed' in, but the night before she was perfectly fine. Her eye is still there but it gets all watery when you uncover the eyelid. Do y'all have any idea what the problem could be?

If she has other chickens, it could be a pecking injury.

We think it could be too. Is there any treatment we could give it? Here's a photo of the eye:

Just put some regular old Neosporin ointment in the eye once a day, to prevent infection. Or you can get some antibiotic ophthalmic ointment from the feed store. It is possible (or likely) she was blinded.

In the eye or on the scab? Will she ever be able to see again?

You can put it over her eye ball and all.
