When I was cleaning my chickens (6-7 year old Orpington’s) coop I found this strange poop. It’s the first time I’ve seen it and I have no idea who might have done it but I’m guessing Hazel (ill with canker, though she is recovering, and hasn’t been eating much) or Willow (just laid her first egg of the year today, so maybe it’s an egg related thing?).

For context, all our chickens apart from Ash are laying eggs about once a day or every other day, their eggs are perfectly normal. Most have VERY small bits of canker in their mouth, apart from Hazel who has a large bit (as we can no longer get medicine we’ve been trying a more holistic approach for her which seems to be working quite well, of garlic, diluted a lot and straight into her mouth, ACV and some nutriboost in her water). All are acting normally; they eat an average amount, are not lethargic and spend most of the day foraging and preening lol. They are fed growers pellets (16% protein but lower calcium - we can’t find a higher protein food where we live unfortunately), supplemented with eggshells and oyster shell and a few (healthy) snacks a week.

Here is the poop:

Usually I would just wait to see if any more of these poops were done, but thanks to Hazel I’m quite paranoid about their health. Thanks in advance :)

It is hard to know for sure, but with the yellow urates in the blackish poop, it may be a reproductive disorder. Is her lower belly enlarged or tight with possible fluid inside? Canker may be treated with acidified copper sulfate 1/4 tsp per gallon water, in the water for 5-7 days, and then 3 days once a month for prevention. Here is a good price for it, and jedds.com also sells it:

Thank you. Her abdomen is completely normal, but I will check again when I can to make sure.
