It started yesterday as the first bands from hurricane Debby hit us. Most of our chickens were gallivanting in and out of the rain, they are in a fairly sheltered area... but my 8 month old pullet Black Beauty was walking around slowly with her tail in the air. It was so windy I thought her tail was just being picked up by it.
But today with a short pause in the rain I see that her tail is still sticking right up no matter if she's facing into the wind or not, and her chest is low. But her head is up and she seems to have her normal energy, walking around. Normally her tail and chest are held horizontally.
She has not begun laying yet, which seems normal for this mix (7-9 months).
Could she be trying to lay her first egg?
Eggbound?
Or does it sound like she might have hurt or strained something in the first day of the storm?
Sorry for the lack of picture, we're getting a lot of rain.
