Hi folks,
One of our Silkies has been bending her neck under her feet more and more over the last few days. I thought she was just checking herself over, preening her underside but it’s increased and she seems not well. I had to help get her out of her coop this morning because she was stuck trying to go the wrong direction. She’s the least bright of the two so I thought she just forgot how. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could it be wry neck? I don't have any experience with this, but I think people recommend Vitamin E and B complex for that. It would be worth looking up the symptoms and treatment in the illness & injuries forum.

Thanks Valerie,
I finally just took her to the bird vet because the I was worried the Vitamin E supplements would take too long. Also I just don't know much about nursing a sick chicken and figured I'd go to learn and ask some questions. The vet couldn't say specifically what it is. He said it could be a number of things, most likely either a virus (which couldn't be treated), Botulism, heavy metal ingestion or trauma of some kind. I opted out of X-rays due to price and went with supportive health feeding, basically just giving her baby bird food via a feeding tube down her throat. I'd heard vitamin deficiency of E, B and or D the most from the forums as the most likely cause but he said most of the commercial feeds have enough nutrients to rule that out. Thanks for the reply!

Best,
Gabe
