Stubborn SLW roosting issues

Since everything looks very secure I don't see what the possible harm could be in letting her sleep down there with him.

She doesn't want to be in the coop at all. I have to place her in there. I wasn't very clear about things. Blue pecks a little bit at Lacey for being in his corner because she tries to wedge between him and the wall. She's pretty persistent, and he usually gives up and allows her to be wedged. She also LOVES to be as high as possible, but some of the other girls do not want her near them. She chose to leave the floor and try out a roost tonight. I was trying to show her a better spot after things didn't work out for her. Should I have left her by the pecking Polish? There was no blood being drawn, just continuous "you're in my space" pecks. She was cornered though, without an escape route, so I kind of stepped in.

Yeah I guess once you put her in the coop then let the chickens sort themselves out as long as there is no blood.

Mine go through the “your in my space” pecking every night. Someone always thinks they want a spot that is already occupied and whoever was already there takes exception to being bumped. As long as they aren’t drawing blood I leave them. It takes a minute or two but then they settle down and go to sleep. My youngest two and lowest in the pecking order tend to go to roost last and take what is left.

Just read through the whole thread, lots of great ideas! I second treats before dusk!!

I’ll just add... I also saw she isn’t lahing yet and several are not. lots of personality traits can change/even out/etc once they are laying. I had a girl who wouldn’t get on the roosts until everyone was sleeping and now that she is laying, she is on the top roost some nights.

Maybe you could add a bar inside the coop similar to the cross bars in the run she is roosting on? Maybe it’s just a preference. Good luck!!!

I am happy to report that, after a peaceful night at roost inside the coop Friday night, Miss Lacey went into the coop on her own last night. After first trying out the roost CJ the crabby-sleeping Polish was on, she moved tip one she could have all to herself and slept there. Fingers crossed she'll put herself to bed again tonight.

Thanks to all who gave input! The scare tape is working great to deter roosting high in the run. The evening scratch is allowing me to close the chickies in the run to remove the possibility of roosting outside the run. The solar light in the coop is helping them all see while they get situated.
